When I was 10 years old, I was accidentally trapped in a meat processing plant while on a school field trip....
Just kidding.
I was born in 1979 in Melbourne Australia. Vegetarianism was popular. My mother opted to raise me on a vegetarian diet. When I was of a certain age (young? don't remember), she asked me if I wanted to try meat. Since I didn't know "what I was missing", I said no. And I've stuck with it.
I do not eat meat of any kind, nor seafood. Veganism intrigues me, but I am not sure I could give up cheese. If you make a soup with chicken broth, I will eat it, but I draw the line at beef broth.
Don't ask me to "pick around the meat", or expect me to be ok with bacon on top of of my cream of potato soup.
What about you? Are you a vegetarian, and why?
