Dos Tacos in Gangnam- hidden 2nd location!

(maybe you already knew about this, but I did not!)

I had been to Dos Tacos in Gangnam before. And just like my first visit, when I went recently it was BUSY. So busy they had a waiting list! I placed my name on the list, but it didnt look very promising that I would be eating tacos anytime soon.

After about 15 minutes, the hostess came out and told us that there was a 2nd Dos Tacos location down stairs in the basement of the same building! A SECOND LOCATION!!!

And it was only half full of customers! There was ample seating! And cooler temperatures! It was fantastic.

 

I had a soft taco with whole pinto beans and a hard taco with refried beans.

SOOOO good. As always.

Retro Oven

Hidden in Gangnam is a tiny little bakery dedicated to baking really really good breads.

 

My friend Dan from SeoulEats suggested I visit Retro Oven. It's just around the corner from his cooking studio for O'ngo Food Communications.

We visited the bakery at 3pm, which was sad for us because as you can clearly see from their hours, 3pm is not a great time to be there. YES- they were open, but the pickings were slim. In fact, while we were admiring their little bakery, munching on free samples, a man on a bicycle came up and bought pretty much all the tasty treats that were left. Leaving us with just an olive loaf.

(Which sounds very unappealing but is actually fabulous)

 

The man on the bicycle took away all of the beautiful fresh pan au chocolats .... So sad.

The staff was BEYOND nice to us. They offered up sample after sample of various breads, dipping oils and even tea. And when one of the staff saw my disappointment that the pan au chocolats had been taken, she told me I could call ahead next time to ensure they had some ready, and they would set them aside just for me.

Doctor Fish!

Doctor Fish is a chic looking coffee shop located in Gangnam- a busy shopping and restaurant area of Seoul. While many people go to this coffee shop for..coffee- my friends and I ventured out to enjoy their other amenities.

 

First- you order a specialty drink. Could be coffee, fancy hot chocolate or a smoothie.

 

After your drink, you walk over to the the Doctor Fish area for your "treatment".

 

Hello fishies!

 

They look hungry, don't they?

You start by washing your feet thoroughly.

 

ANd then you put your feet in the water.

 

And then you take them back out again because DANG, that is a weird feeling!

 

But then you put them back in again because those fishies have to get to work!

 

Doctor Fish also known as Garra rufa, hail from Turkey and the surrounding areas. They are used to treat skin disorders. You can learn more here.

 

On my first visit (I've been twice), those fishies LOOVED my dry calloused feet. So much fish food for them!

Do you see all the dark areas? MOBS OF FISH around my foot.

 

 

Goodness, that is a lot of fish isnt it?

What does it feel like? It feels like fish are nibbling on you! It doesnt hurt but it tickles like crazy!

You get to put your feet in the fish water (which was filtered and appeared very clean) for 20 minutes. Afterward, you wash your feet again and they spray them with something that claims to be a disinfectant. Who knows. I havent started growing fish scales yet.

The coffee drink and the fish experience is about $8,000KRW, less than $10 USD!

How to Get There:

Take Gangnam Station Exit 6.
Walk straight for about 5 minutes
Pass the Krispy Kreme
Just before the entrance to Doc Fish, there is a store that is an American Eagle clothing look-alike store. Other landmarks- across the street from Doc Fish is a Skin Food store.

Doctor Fish is on the 2nd floor. It looks like a book and coffee shop, I dont think its actually labeled as Doctor Fish.

Dos Tacos

Dos Tacos is a little Taco Shanty tucked down an alley in Gagnam. I'd heard good things, but that was coming from meat eaters so you never really know.

They have a lunch set you can order from. Were the prices fantastic for a Mexican lunch? No. I would have preferred some chips and salsa on the side of my two soft tacos for the 6900krw I paid.

Not that the tacos werent filling, because they were. 

My friend got the lunch set with one soft taco and one taco Al Pastor

And here is a chimichanga...

 

This one had meat in it, but you can get a vegetarian version of nearly everything on their menu. I plan on getting a veggie chimichanga next time.

 

It's a pretty hopping place during the weekday lunch rush. At least now that the weather is warming up you can eat your tacos outside if need be.
