On my mind

Last night, I dreamt about this burger...

The Wolfhound's new veggie burger. The last time I had it, was when it first officially premiered on their new menu- October 16th. Then I went away to the US for a few weeks and now I am back and inundated with family Christmas photo shoots (my " real job").

But apparently deep down I am hankering for their veggie burger. If you havent had it yet, it is awesome. They don't skimp on the size at all, as this burger is so big is spills over the bun. The texture is crunchy and creamy- all at the same time, making it the perfect veggjie burger in Seoul.

Cafe Milliways Take 2

This week the I got together with some of my lady friends for a drinks and eats at Cafe Milliways.

My first experience with Cafe Milliways was decent, but didnt blow me away. This time I explored the menu options further and found out what Milliways is really good at.

Waffles.

SO GOOD.

A think delicious Belgian waffle, with a generous dollop of fresh cream and berries on top. That cream? So good. Rich, but not too sweet. 

This dish is good any time of day (I had it at 8pm!) but if you are looking for a good brunch spot, this dish will satisfy you.

I was with big group of friends, so I got to see first hand some other menu items.

 

Chips and Salsa- $13,000 KRW 

Verdict: Different, small portion and very over priced.

Hawaiian Burger

Verdict- tasty but seemed like a preformed patty

 

French Fries

Verdict- Pretty darn good

 

Spinach Dip with chips $14,000KRW

Verdict- Yummy. Good portion for the price. Great for sharing with friends or eating alone while working on a project.

 

I enjoyed a great mimosa and some of the ladies had Appletini's with a beautiful thin slice of apple floating on top.

Cafe Milliways has a diverse menu. It's a bit hit or miss, but worth the risk.

Cafe Milliways is located across from the Ichon Station (blue line #4) in the bottom of Park Tower building 106. Take Exit 3-1 out of the subway and make a u-turn. Just a few doors down.

Looking for a bar to call your own?

I have been to the The Wolfhound Pub enough times now to call it "my bar".

I feel comfortable when I walk in. The lighting is glowing. But not too dark that it's seedy. There are booths and chairs and stools to choose from- all decently comfortable.

The bathrooms were recently renovated and they are VERY nice. 

 

I've been there on dates, I've been there in mixed company, Ive been there for ladies nights with my friends.

Like I said, it's my Go To bar.

I don't eat seafood, but if you do- you have to check out The Wolfhound's 2 for 1 deal on Tuesdays.

 

Buy 1 fish and chips plate, your friend gets one for free!

(or I suppose you could keep them both for yourself.)

Heading out for late drinks with friends?

 

They have a good selection of on tap beers, cocktails and shooters.

(best Mojitos in town!)

Need a small bite to eat with your drinks?

 

These mozzarella sticks are unlike the normal bar food cheese sticks. These things are very low on grease, deliciously gooey with a crunchy exterior.

Rookie's Sports Bar and Grill

When I think of sports bars, I do not think of Korea.

But low and behold a sports bar opened up across the street from our apartment complex.

The grand opening was QUITE an event. There was the balloon arch that is a very familaiar site here in Korea when a new business opens. But it was the scantily clad dancers that really made the whole opening an event.

 

 

The dancers (and they sung too!) were out there ALL DAY LONG. Our apartment faces the street, so we were "lucky" enough to have live entertainment just out the open window!

It's a tiny place. And it is surrounded by some run down shanty style housing, BUT- who knows. It IS across the street from a big apartment complex filled with people who probably like sports, so maybe it will be the new Man Hangout.

 

The menu doesnt really include anything for the vegetarian crowd, so I doubt you'll find me dining there.

Sunny Days

I've passed Sunny Days cafe numerous times before realizing it was not just a little coffee shop, but a cafe. Serving food. Real food.

Vegetarian food.

 

(And yes, I do realize it says "homemade burger" on the outside, which should have been my first clue it was more than a coffee shop, but apparently I am oblivious.)

It's locates near the "entrance" archways on one end of Itaeweon. You can grab a tasty lunch and people watch from their open air seating.

I ordered a tofu burger.

Look at that thing! It is huge!

 

I have never seen a bigger slice of grilled tofu in my life.

Was it good? Yes. The bread is baked fresh, the kitchen staff are obviously trained in the ways of tofu, and the sandwich was just beautiful to look at.

Would I order it again? Probably not. That's one HUGE chunk of tofu. Even though I am tofu fan, that was too too much. But I would like to order one of their other vegetarian sandwiches sometime. 

Prices are a little more than your average cafe, but the food is also better than your average cafe.

Veggie Burger at Wolfhound Pub!

Over the summer the Wolfhound in Itaeweon went thru some physical renovations and some menu renovations. 

When I visited the Wolfhound in August, the veggie burger was not on the menu yet, but the owner talked the chef into making it for me.

This thing was HUGE. And it came with a generous handful of their homemade "chips". 

It's black bean based and very moist and tasty. I personally found it lacking a little crunch, and suggested adding chopped celery, but that's my personal preference.

I'd suggest ordering the cheese sticks as an appetizer...

These are NOT your garden variety cheese sticks. These are gourmet. And not stringy, but ooey gooey.

(In a good way!)

So start with the cheese sticks and then split the veggie burger with someone.

Jocoby's Burgers

Past Itaewon, in an area called Haebonchon (follow the road with the kimchi pots all lined up again the Army Post wall), we found a burger joint that had a veggie burger!

Woot Woot!

 

 

 

For a burger joint, they had a pretty extensive menu. Burgers of all varieties, wings, brunch items, appetizers, and a long list of wines, tap beers and cocktails all at pretty fair prices.

(Rum and coke, $5,000KRW Hoegarden beer on tap $7,000KRW)

 

They bake their own buns and use organic vegetables among other highlights.

 

My dining partner (a meat eater), started with the mild wings.

He said they tasted like they had been marinated, then possible basted and fried. Crispy skin on the outside. I know he will be going back for more!

I got Jacoby's veggie burger.

 

This burger, was....magical. FILLED with flavor and texture. Juicy. The base of it is red beans. And it had veggies mixed into the patty, and the fresh veggies piled on top were a great addition.

If I had the power, I would bestow Jacoby's Burgers with a gold medal for Excellence in Veggie Burger Craftsmanship. 

My dining partner go to the Onion Fresco Bacon Burger.

 

Twas a masterpiece.
